73% of U.S. soybeans, 72% of corn rated good to excellent
The USDA’s national crop condition rating for soybeans improved slightly over the past week, while corn held steady. Weather was mixed around the Midwest and Plains as some areas received beneficial rainfall and temperatures generally moderated from the previous week.
As of Sunday, 72% of corn is rated good to excellent, unchanged from the week before, with 92% of the crop silking, compared to the five-year average of 87%, and 39% at the dough making stage, compared to 33% on average.
73% of soybeans are in good to excellent shape, up 1% on the week, with 85% of U.S. beans blooming, compared to the usual pace of 82%, and 59% has reached the pod setting stage, compared to 54% on average.
85% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 88% normally in early August.
73% of spring wheat is called good to excellent, a week to week improvement of 3%, while 5% is harvested, compared to 10% on average.
45% of cotton is rated good to excellent, a drop of 4% from the prior week, with 91% squaring, matching the typical pace, and 54% setting bolls, compared to 55% on average.
76% of rice is in good to excellent condition, steady with the previous week, and 59% has headed, compared to 68% usually this time of year.
36% of U.S. pastures and range lands are good to excellent, 34% is rated fair, and 30% are called poor to very poor, all unchanged on the week.
