CLAAS to develop sustainable equipment to meet EU climate goals

A global equipment manufacturer says it will ramp up development of sustainable farm machinery to help the European Union become climate neutral by 2050.

Mathias Mumme is with German-based CLAAS. “We are engaged with topics like autonomous machinery, like egg bots, but alternatives fuels and drives in our machines are what we are working on.”

He tells Brownfield farmers will be able to operate environmentally friendly machines. “That means low fuel consumptions.  It means high efficiency, high productivity.  But, it also means, low soil protection and soil friendly technologies like the Terratrac for example or tire inflation systems.”

And, Mumme says, sustainable equipment will also be included in their factories. “We are looking at more efficient production. For example, using trucks in the future with hydrogen engines to deliver spare parts or to deliver machines.”

He says it’s too soon to determine when equipment will be available and released to farmers.
