Comment period for E15 rule underway

The EPA has given stakeholders a little more than a month
to weigh in on the proposed rule that would allow year-round sales of E15.

The proposal is being published in the Federal Register today, and the comment period ends April 29th.

Minnesota Corn Growers president Brian Thalmann says he’s pleased with the E15 portion of the rule.

“And we hope that as we go through this final review process EPA will come out and move that forward, sooner rather than later to make sure we can get it in full effect for all fuel retailers prior to the summer driving season.”

But Thalmann is disappointed EPA included RIN reform in the proposed rule.

“There were some agreements made sort of behind the scenes to continue to offer exemptions to some of these refiners, which allows them not to blend the ethanol and not follow the rules set forth in the Renewable Fuel Standard.”

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings recently told Brownfield he expects legal challenges to the rule, which could slow implementation.
