CVE North America, an independent power producer based in New York, announced the launch of its community solar offering — branded “Halo” — starting with one acquisition in Acushnet, Massachusetts. and several builds for the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program, where it ranks among the Top 10 competitors in capacity submitted to the program.

CVE NA submitted seven solar installations totaling 36 MWDC to SMART, and the company will add another ten projects to its North American portfolio with 29 MWDC of additional community solar builds in Massachusetts and in New York by 2021.

“Community Solar aligns with our commitment to bring access to solar to all by meeting the energy and environmental needs of communities and businesses through a service-provider approach,” said Thibaut Delespaul, VP of CVE NA. “With Halo, we are providing energy that is renewable and produced locally, and we are delivering on our company’s commitment to share in a human adventure rooted in responsibility.”

Halo benefits subscribers

Halo community solar allows individuals and companies — who cannot or do not want to install solar panels on their roofs — to access solar energy without any upfront cost. CVE NA builds and operates the Halo solar installations that deliver clean electricity to subscribers’ local grid. Subscribers then receive solar credits that are applied to their electricity bill and provide savings of up to 10% per month. Through the Halo digital platform, subscribers can see the amount of money they are saving, how much electricity their solar panels are producing and how much carbon emissions their subscription is off-setting.

“Halo was tailored to answer the needs of an electricity consumer base that is environmentally conscious, technologically savvy and eager to save money,” said Delespaul. “We are thrilled that the consumer can be directly linked with the benefits of their solar installation. This helps empower people to be a change agent in the transition to cleaner energy.”

First Halo projects available in Massachusetts

The Acushnet community solar installation is producing 650 kWDC of clean electricity and will provide the first savings to commercial and residential subscribers in July 2019.

As part of the SMART program, CVE NA is developing community solar projects in New Marlborough, Russell, Tolland, Westhampton and Peru that are set to be in operation between late 2019 and early 2020.

“We are privileged to be a part of the Massachusetts Department of Energy’s commitment to a clean, affordable and resilient energy future for the state. And we’re happy to be able to contribute to the local economies of the six cities where we are creating construction jobs at Halo solar installations,” said Delespaul.

Halo Community Solar is available for subscription in Massachusetts and will soon be open to subscribers in New York. For more information about Halo, please visit http://www.halosolar.com/.
