World-renowned boat manufacturer Scout Boats has just begun generating clean renewable energy to power its manufacturing facility located in Summerville, South Carolina. During a ceremony May 10, Scout Boats CEO Steve Potts flipped the switch to unveil the new 592-kW solar energy system and announce the addition of a second solar energy system to be constructed at Scout Boats by Hannah Solar Government Services (HSGS).
In the first year, the roof-mounted solar array is expected to generate 775,752 kWh of energy.
“At Scout, we’ve always taken great pride in not only being one of the most innovative marine manufacturers in the industry, but also being one of the most innovative companies right here in the state of South Carolina,” Potts said. “We’ve taken great measures over the years to ensure our Summerville-based headquarters and processes are state-of-the-art, not only for our team, but for our customers and community. As one of the largest employers in the tri-county area, we felt it is important, and our manufacturing responsibility, to be a resource for generating clean, renewable energy. Our partnership with HSGS allows us to do just that. The solar array on our newest facility expansion, Plant D, is the start of what we hope will be a longstanding relationship with HSGS. And we hope to set an example for other manufacturers in our state and beyond.”
HSGS designed, engineered and constructed the solar energy system and is currently in the process of engineering and designing Scout Boats’ second solar energy system. This second system will consist of four parking canopies, totaling a 605 kW. HSGS will begin the construction of the parking canopies this fall.
