More rain expected in flood-affected areas

Flood affected areas might be in for more rain in the next week. Precipitation
could start this weekend, according to Greg Soulje, meteorologist for Brownfield
Ag News.

“We do have another rain system to come west to east across much of the Central
and Southern Plains, Central and Southern Corn Belt locales, as we move on
through the weekend and early next week too,” said Soulje.

In addition to snow-melt, Soulje expects more rain through the Dakotas and
Nebraska, including much of the Western Corn Belt eastward to the Mississippi
Valley, which is in the forecast later next week and into the following
weekend.

“[That] is the vanguard and precursor of what should be a pretty wet and active
spring weather pattern and season, unfortunately, for much of the Heartland,
the Plains and the Corn Belt,” said Soulje.

President Trump has declared a disaster in Nebraska, and Missouri Governor Mike
Parson declared an emergency as a result of flooding. Iowa Governor Kim
Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for 52 counties and has requested
an expedited major disaster declaration from the federal government.
