Tai says trade agreements remain a priority

From the trade agreement with China to issues with the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the US Trade Representative says there are several ag-related priorities to tackle.

US Trade Representative Katherine Tai told NASDA members Tuesday that China remains a priority for USTR.  “My staff here continues to work with China to implement its commitments under the Phase One agreement,” she says.  “Including those related to agricultural market access and purchases.”

She says the administration continues to evaluate the terms of the China trade agreement.  “We know this is one of the most consequential relationships of our time,” he says.  “So it is worth our time in getting it right.  And we need to be hearing from you about your interests and your priorities.”

Tai says they’re also keeping pressure on Canada on dairy issues within the USMCA.  “We do this because enforcing the implementation of the agreement is absolutely critical to ensuring the agreement remains relevant and we hold our trading partners accountable,” she says.

Earlier this year the US Trade Representative requested a dispute settlement panel to review Canada’s TRQ allocation measures.
