Trump: Mexico to buy more US ag goods
The
U.S. and Mexico reached an agreement on immigration issues this weekend that
prevented tariffs on all Mexican goods from going into effect.
In
making the announcement, President Trump also said Mexico will begin buying
large quantities of agricultural products as a result of the agreement, but he
offered no further details.
Mexico’s ambassador to the U.S. was asked on CBS’ Face the Nation if increased ag purchases were part of the agreement. She would not confirm that it was part of the deal, saying only that ag trade would increase over time without tariffs and after the new U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement is ratified.
Mexico
is already one of the biggest export markets for American farmers and ranchers.
