A group of ten bipartisan senators including Marco Rubio (R-FL), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), calling on it to take steps to combat the national security threat posed by Huawei’s entry into the U.S. solar market.

Some senators who signed the latest letter also sent one to Former Energy Secretary Rick Perry and Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen back in February 2019.

“While Huawei announced earlier this year that it intended to exit the U.S. solar market, there are no guarantees,” the letter states. “Huawei-produced inverters connected to the U.S. energy grid could leave it vulnerable to foreign surveillance and interference, and could potentially give Beijing access to meddle with portions of America’s electricity supply.”

The Financial Times reported Huawei shut down its U.S. solar inverter operations in June 2019 after facing criticism from the Trump administration and Congress.
