9% of U.S. corn, 5% of soybeans harvested
The U.S. corn and soybean harvests are just ahead of average. Weather has been favorable for early harvest activity in most of the Midwest and Plains, but some areas are expected to see rain delays later this week.
The USDA says 9% of U.S. corn is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 7%, with 90% of the crop dented and 54% mature. 51% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent condition, 1% lower than a week ago.
5% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 4% on average, and 54% of the crop is dropping leaves, compared to the usual rate of 43%, with 52% of U.S. beans called good to excellent, steady with last week.
15% of winter wheat is planted, compared to 16% on average.
93% of U.S. spring wheat is harvested, matching the normal pace.
43% of sorghum is in good to excellent shape, a decline of 1%, with 85% coloring, 47% mature, and 25% harvested, all close to the usual rates for mid-September.
29% of cotton is rated as good to excellent, unchanged, with 55% of bolls opening and 9% of the crop harvested.
57% of U.S. rice is harvested, compared to 47% on average.
34% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are reported as good to excellent, an increase of 1% on the week.
