Oil-state senators press Wheeler

Five Republican oil-state senators led by Ted Cruz of Texas
have written a letter to EPA acting administrator Andrew Wheeler asking for
assurances from him for their confirmation votes.

The letter, obtained by Bloomberg News, says they will have serious concerns with his nomination as EPA Administrator if he does not “lower the regulatory burden of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINS)” and asks if he will continue granting small refinery waivers “in accordance with the statue and law.”

It’s those “hardship” waivers granted to large oil companies that have corn-state senators concerned. Midwestern senators at a Wheeler hearing last month pressed him to reallocate lost gallons as a result of those waivers and to expedite the rollout of year-round E15 this summer.
