Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was confirmed by the Senate to lead the country’s Department of Energy by a 64-35 vote on Feb. 25. Granholm will head the agency that’s largely responsible for accomplishing President Biden’s vision of drastically cutting U.S. energy emissions and setting a path toward net-zero by 2050.

SEIA congratulated Granholm on her confirmation.
“Secretary Granholm is a long-time clean energy champion and a tremendous leader who is ready to tackle our nation’s energy and climate challenges on day one. I want to congratulate Secretary Granholm and I look forward to the role she will play in leading America’s transition to a clean energy economy. The Department of Energy will be at the forefront of the fight against climate change and building a clean, affordable, and equitable electricity system for all Americans, and Secretary Granholm is the right leader for that critical work,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of SEIA, in a statement.
The Energy Storage Association (ESA) also expressed that it’s looking forward to collaborating with the new secretary.

Secretary Granholm has long championed building America’s leadership in energy storage innovation, manufacturing, and deployment. We look forward to working with her as she leads at a pivotal moment for DOE, following the expanded authority on storage investments that Congress granted in end-of-year legislation, the Department’s Energy Storage Grand Challenge roadmap now established, and the recent Executive Order reviewing battery storage supply chains,” said ESA in a statement.
