Fordyce says MFP2 on track
Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce says the
MFP2 payments are on schedule to go out as soon as next week, “Sign-up began a
week ago last Monday and we’ve had overwhelming, as you can imagine, overwhelming
response to that.”
Brownfield Ag News caught up with Fordyce, former Ag Director of Missouri, at the Missouri State Fair, who emphasized that this time each county has its own unique rate, “You know, at least the producers that I’ve talked to here at the State Fair have been very happy with that rate in their county. This program is putting meaningful dollars in peoples’ pockets at a time when, obviously, we all need that.”
Fordyce says there have been some software glitches for crops that weren’t included in the MFP-1 program that are being corrected so payments should be going out as planned.
Missouri FSA Director Brent Hampy agrees and says Missouri is on track. Hampy tells Brownfield, “As you can imagine, the program gets complicated. So it does take some time and some training to get our people up and ready to go to serve our producers. But we’re trying to do that timely and anticipate we’re on schedule.”
Hampy says it’s been a stressful year for Missouri’s
farmers. Every Missouri county, except
four, has been approved under the USDA Disaster Declaration for
assistance.
